What to wear Guide – Gardening

The days are getting longer, the weather is (slowly) hotting up and the gardens of the UK are bursting into life. Monty Don & his adorable dogs (Nigel & Nel) are back on our TV’s with Gardeners World and The Chelsea Flower show is just around the corner.

Not only that but this week is National Gardening Week, so to celebrate we thought we would put together a blog for what to wear in the garden … Toggi style (of course)!

Summer is usually easy, you can grab a t-shirt, a pair of shorts, a hat and some factor 30 (if you’re lucky) but actually, we live in the UK and even though we call it ‘Summer’ it can still drop chilly pretty quickly so it’s better to be prepared.

Our list of gardening essentials (and Toggi favourites) looks like this…
A warm fleece – perfect to throw on if the temperature drops. Our new Sanford and Duxbury fleeces will be perfect for keeping you warm and with useful zip pockets for storing all your (small) gardening essentials.

If you’re after a slightly oversized super cosy fleece then our Eden fleece is always a winner too!

A waterproof jacket – preferably with a hood incase you get caught in a little downpour in the garden or the allotment! We’re passionate about ensuring our jackets are fully waterproof (as well as breathable) and we pride ourselves on making sure they are all practical and fit for purpose. Waterproof trousers – which definitely need to be tough and hard-wearing, ideal for kneeling in the dirt! Our Usk over trousers will be perfect and here’s why:

These are quite simply a gardeners, horse riders or country lovers best friend… you need to try a pair! These trousers have been tried, tested and loved by some of the UK’s biggest equestrian athletes and they could not praise them anymore!

Sturdy & waterproof boots or wellies – of which we have a whole host of suitable styles within our country boot and Wellington boot collections. If you’re a fan of leather over rubber, we highly recommend our Columbus, Caledon or Aspen boots (or if you fancy something a little shorter we also have the Lincoln yard boot). They will take you from garden to country with ease, keeping your feet dry and comfortable for hours on end.

But, if you can’t help but love a wellington boot then we can help there too. We have a wide range of thermal neoprene lined styles which will keep feet dry, warm, snug and toasty. We have ladies, men’s & unisex styles with the options of side zips and gussets to provide a variety of fits.

Thick socks – and Toggi socks will do perfectly! Made from Bamboo fibres which have anti-bacterial properties and with a super soft cushioned towelling sole unit … they are just heaven for your tootsies!! Every season we have a variety of styles (including gardening friendly designs such as SS17’s florals, birds & wellies).

A Gilet – perfect to throw on if you’re heading out to the garden, it will keep you warm but keep your arms free so they can work hard. Our SS17 Bennington gilet will look great and stylish on the allotment with its traditional country styling. Our Brunswick gilet would be super practical with its ‘wipe clean’ fabric and our Barnesville gilet with its super stretchy side panels will give you the warmth but even better movement whilst working.

SS17 Blanford (the floral shirt) – Not such a traditional choice for the garden (but nonetheless practical). You can go straight from a leisurely morning at the garden centre where you’ve shopped for your plants, enjoyed a cheeky cuppa with a slice of delicious homemade cake (sorry we’re day dreaming now) straight to your garden with sophisticated style.
