Welcome to the Team, Ellie!

About Ellie Meager.

We’re very excited to announce a new brand ambassador to our team. We went to Haxey, North Lincolnshire, to meet the up and coming Show Jumper, Ellie Meager at her yard last week to find out a little bit about her and her lovely horses.

“Hi Ellie, where did it all begin for you?”

I loaned a cart horse from my neighbouring farm as a child and was a member of Chipstead Riding Club. From then on I have had horses ever since.
The “bug” for Showjumping definitely all began living with Di, our chef d’equipe. My previous trainer Alex Hempleman knew that Di would either make or break me … and luckily ignoring one hip operation, it made me. The way she dealt with business, through to her daily riding is exceptional, I was in awe of Di’s knowledge and talent.

“Tell us a bit about your top horse”

My top horse is Cassius III, 12yr old grey stallion which I have had since he was 7. Budra X Calato bloodlines, and available at stud!

We have grown together whilst living at Di Lampard’s for 2 years where I was based with three other Showjumping horses.

We began jumping newcomers, and ended last year jumping Grand Prix and world ranking classes out in Spain and Belgium.

“What has been your biggest achievement to date?”

That’s tricky one for me. If I was to pin point a great placing it would be The Lincolnshire Show Grand Prix for a double clear and finishing up 3rd, but it was more so the buzz, sunshine and happy crowd that made it memorable. Especially being introduced as “The Local Lady”!
The moment I thought – I’m getting the hang of this – was definitely reading in Horse & Hound – “Rider Beats Trainer” which was an article about Di & myself where I stole number one spot from Di in the jump off of the Winter Grade C putting her into 2nd, being last to go in the jump off, that was a quiet drive home!

“Tell us about a the highlights of 2017”

The highlights of last year – Lanaken 2017 Spring Tour. It’s by far my favourite show, and I feel like it signifies the end of the winter which always helps. I finished up 3rd in the U25 1.45m Grand Prix on Cassius.
I remember walking it thinking it was huge & welling up over the finish line. Leaving us as a pair in good rankings for the EY-Cup series out in Europe.

“And finally, what is in store for you in 2018?”

2018 – It’s my come back year after my operation. We have our show schedule complete and I aim to get into the swing of things quickly to ensure we finish the year up in Oliva Nova with a lot of experience & success. More importantly this year I want to build a strong team of horses up, and enthusiastic owners.

Ellie is setting off for Lanaken in a couple of days. We wish her the best of luck and are looking forward to seeing her progress.
