The Diary of cornish eventer….

Wowzers! Can’t believe 2016 is over but what year it has been! Hope you have all had an amazing 2016 and are reflecting back on precious memories you have created with you and your four legged friends.

With the eventing season come to an end it has been a quiet period for Sprite, Lola and I. We have mainly been doing lots of hacking around our beautiful countryside we have down here in Cornwall.

We did have a brilliant time at the Christmas team jumping at Colraine Equestrian Centre a few weeks ago. Lola was most confused but who wouldn’t be after seeing a Christmas pudding on horseback! My team decided to dress up as elves.  Lola gave me two lovely clear rounds, all finished up with mulled wine and a mince pie, yum!

A week later and I was off to Exeter to go to the Westpoint Equine Fair, Exeter seemed like just a short trip after all the travelling we have done this season. My riding club Cornwall Trec had been invited to do a demonstration of our Wizard of Oz quadrille routine. It was great wearing the red shoes and ride alongside Tin Man again, we only did a pairs routine but trying to fit a 20 x 60 floor plan into a 20 x 30 was urmm… challenging, but we pulled it off and everyone loved it. Sprite was my little special one (as always) and wasn’t fazed at all that the crowd was so close to us – literally touching distance! I think she actually quite likes being a bit of a show off and embraces all the attention!

My next plan is give the horses some time off during January and myself to re-charge our batteries! Then we’ll be fresh and ready to hit the hard training for the up and coming season.
