Pippa Funnell out of contention for Olympic selectionTwo of Pippa Funnell’s top rides – Redesigned owned by Denise and Roger Lincoln and Billy Shannon owned by Barbara and Nicholas Walkinshaw have regrettably sustained injuries that mean they will be out of contention for selection for London 2012.
Pippa commented ‘I am of course devastated that I will not have a horse for London 2012, winning a medal at London would have been the pinnacle of my career. I also feel disappointed and upset for my loyal owners and hardworking grooms and support staff – London was their dream too. Disappointment is part and parcel of equine sport, perhaps this is why the successes are so sweet. I wish all the British riders the best of luck and hope they bring home a bucket full of medals.’
Eventing Performance Manager Yogi Breisner commented ‘ It is disappointing that we will not have a rider of Pippa’s calibre contending selection for London. Pippa supported by her owners has worked very hard to bring both horses up to a standard where they would have been in contention for selection. I feel very disappointed for Pippa who is professional in all she does, she is a pleasure to work with and a great team member.
Eventing Performance Director Will Connell added 'It is of course a setback, but we have other talented riders with world class horses who will be seeking to impress the selectors over the coming weeks. Pippa is not only a super talented rider but she has worked tirelessly with William to build up the Billy Stud. All within the sport will be saddened to hear this news.
